Hi there,
i was lucky and found this watch under the X-Mas tree  ;D
Now i wonder which firmware version is the newest?
My watch is running the Version 0906111.
The support page offers me the version 090509  ???
And some users seem to run 0910XXX ...

Can somebody help me and send me the one which is up to date?
ole.nissen@nline.de

Thanks!

Hi Ole

You are lucky guy!
06111 is formal version, of course we have firmware X which adds a lot features.
You can download firmware update tool from http://www.gs-sport.com/pro_dl.php?en_product_id=1&en_product_cnt_id=23 and firmware will be sent out tomorrow.

Have a nice day.

Hello Geoffrey and others,

Have a good and sportive New Year to you all.

Geoffrey, I can understand that the slope you wanted to implement in the software is giving problems to your team. I did read more about it and I discovered that it hardly impossible to do with only GPS and not having a barometer inside. I found maybe interesting link to read more about it.  http://www.gpsplusins.com/Documents/Papers/PAC.pdf
This could be used to correct the data slope. I found out that using GPS data for riding a track with a virtual trainer is not possible due to having to many errors in the altitude, even after using correction plug-in from Sport Tracks. Aldo if you look at the graph it looks very reasonable, but the little bumps in it are hard to ride and not realistic. So if you canít put the slope in forget it and implement it in the next generation together with a barometer.

This is it for the moment.  :)

Best regards,

Albert

Hi Albert,

Thanks for giving the excellent paper! I will take a more detail look.
Yes, the most error comes from muti-path, doppler effect, PLL offset, athorphere....

I look another paper which said: To use more sampling to estiminate the speed error because the error factor is normal distribution. It needs over 20 sampling points!

I think it also works on there but only optimize. For my personal thought on slope, there are two ways:

1. Like ascending speed: Slope=[Alt(t)-Alt(t-5min)]/ dist(5min);
    Update screen every 5 second;
2. Alt(n)= Average [Alt(n):Alt(n-60sec)]   <----- there are 60 points totally!
    Alt(n-10)= Average [Alt(n-10sec):Alt(n-70sec)] <------- There are 60 points also!
     Slope= [Alt(n)-Alt(n-10)]/dist(1min)
     Update screen every 5 second;

Now we are only working on improvement of Pace and indoor training, since we are almost occupied on GH-505.

Have a nice new year.

Hello Geoffrey,

I look another paper which said: To use more sampling to estiminate the speed error because the error factor is normal distribution. It needs over 20 sampling points!

I think it also works on there but only optimize. For my personal thought on slope, there are two ways:

1. Like ascending speed: Slope=[Alt(t)-Alt(t-5min)]/ dist(5min);
    Update screen every 5 second;
  • In this case the time taken on distance will say for slope, E.g. climbing with 20km/h = 5,556 meter/sec. This times 5sec update= 27,78 m distance further. With an slope of less then 6% this is a normal speed
  • Alt(t)-Alt(t-5min)]/dist(5min) this in an example Alt(t)= 600m, Alt(t-5min)= 500m, dist=((20km/h) in 5 min) 1666,67m
  • This means slope=(600-500)/1666,67,  slope= 6%
This looks OK but what if alt(t-5min) was inaccurate reading and should be 460 m (It happens a lot) then slope becomes 8.4% and only after 28 meters you can get the, hopefully,  right slope. In my opinion the only way to stop false readings is compare more then 20 samples with each other and take out the extremes say 3 in negative and positive line. and take an average. Nothing is more frustrating than if you climb an it is hard the slope say it is only 4% and in real it is 8%.

2. Alt(n)= Average [Alt(n):Alt(n-60sec)]   <----- there are 60 points totally!
    Alt(n-10)= Average [Alt(n-10sec):Alt(n-70sec)] <------- There are 60 points also!
     Slope= [Alt(n)-Alt(n-10)]/dist(1min)
     Update screen every 5 second;
  • I think the average is more what could work if (n) is number of points, also then it would be better to take out extremes, because we know that the altitude can be far off, not so important for distance but very important for the slope
I have a Cyclometer with altitude, even this one gives from time to time false readings in a slope. It jumps while cycling from 11% to 9% and back again and it gives the right measurement always after you past that point, probably due to the calculation time, so nothing is perfect.
Thanks anyway for thinking for an answer.

I Hope all this will lead to an excellent GH-505
The Smart Track back is one of the best idea's, and it performs well.

P.s. I like to make a list to put all the items and ideas made on the forum for a better TG and TM soon.

Best regards,

Hi Albert,

I totally agree with you !

I Hope all this will lead to an excellent GH-505
I'm curious to hear more news about it, but can it be more excellent that GH-625 ? ::)

The Smart Track back is one of the best idea's, and it performs well.
Yes - it does. And I like this function !  :) (and it was a long fight to get it...)

P.s. I like to make a list to put all the items and ideas made on the forum for a better TG and TM soon.
This is a veeeeery good idea !  Could have been mine...  ;)
