New SportTracks plugin - Beta testers needed
« on: November 28, 2009, 10:28:29 am »

Hi everybody!

Finally I finished the first version of the SportTracks plugin I've been working on, and I would like the users of this program to try it and give some feedback.

The features are as follows:

  • Export menu:
    - Export track as route or activity to device (export as route will not work on gh625, only on Keymaze or GH561)
  • Edit menu:
    - Reduce number of points in the track.
  • Activity detail page:
    - Waypoints management:
    - Download, upload, delete, create new waypoints, import from gpx/kml/wpt file, export to gpx
    - Edit waypoints on the map (select Edit mode on map and drag the waypoint icon)

You can download it from here.
To install just copy the .dll file to the SportTracks plugins directory.

Any feedback, suggestions, bug reports, etc are welcome.

Regards,
-Phil

Works like it should under Linux Ubuntu 9.10 tested both gh625/gh561
All the gfx bugs I saw in the beta looks nice now.
In the beta I couldn't export route to gh561 this also works now.

Great work!!!!! :)

Now I can interface gh625 and gh561 almost compleatly from Sporttracks
under Linux the only thing I need a windows box is for flashing the FW, but
I think that for the gh561 there migth be other tools as it seem to use
some standard STM method of flashing buy I have not manage to speed
enogh time to investigate it as I have a windows box 1m away that I can
use for the FW flashing.

Hi Zingo,

If you succeed to integrate to Linux. Will you create a documentaion?
I have plan to create a template in our offical website (www.gs-sport.com) and put the all good tool and suggestion over there to share the all memebers.

The long term plan is to make our software more flexiable and become open source and can be developped plug by end-users likes ST and i-Phone. It will be more interesting!

Sincerely,

Geoffrey

Hi Geoffrey!

I tested the plugin on linux and it works out-of-the-box with the Mono platform.
On Ubuntu and Knoppix, right after you plug in the USB cable, the GH-625/Keymaze appears as a device /dev/ttyUSB* and the GH-561 as /dev/ttyACM*.
On other linux flavours it may work as well, but the device installation may be more complex than just plug-and-play.

That's a good idea to gather all the good stuff on your website, specially for beginners.
Making it open source would be great, so that the community could improve the product and explore all the capabilities. That's what I tried to do with this plugin.

Yes as Phil says there are basically no special stuff need for Ubuntu.

Here are the instruction for Ubuntu 9.10
It would be good if someone else tested/verified them aslo, things that seems obvious for me might not be obvious for others.
--------------------------------------------------
1. Install SportTracks according to the instructions at http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/Downloads/linux.php
2. Download the plugin and place it in the pluginfolder (<installdir>/Plugins) if the folder don't exist create it with
Quote
$ cd <installdir>
$ mkdir Plugins

Under Ubuntu 9.10 There is no need to install any serial driver gh-615/gh-625 and gh-561 works out of the box.

If gh-615 or gh-625 is used the following plugin is also need to be able to download training data from the watch. http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/Plugins/plugin_detail.php?id=74 copy it to the same dir as above.

Hi there,

i test your plugin under winXP with Sporttracks 2.1, GH 615 FW 1.12 (GH625).

Editing Activities works fine, Exporting to watch works good, too. Thank you very much for these 2 features!

Exporting to Routes does not work: SportTracks says "Export ok", Gh615 says Route data received - but i dont find the route under the "routes menu" in the watch.

Is it an issue with my fw?

As I understad it only activety is supported by gh615/gh625. Route only works on keymaze branded gh625 units.

Phil
I got a request (well a PM) from Gerhard from the SportTracks forums that you put your plugin into the plugin list and he did like it. I don't think he could use it in full as I think he has a Garmin but he has some nice ideas to make it more general. See more here:

Here's an updated version of the plugin with the option to save/restore the configuration of the GPS (useful after updating the firmware or reseting to factory settings).

This option is at the SportTracks settings page -> Plugins -> Globalsat Plugin -> Device Configuration, and works with both GH-625 and GH-561.

Hi Phil !

Wow ! I am amazed ! I didn't expect to get a result in this short time !  :)
Thank you very much Phil !

This is what I wanted to have. I directly made a short test this morning
and it worked without any problems. I just did a short test with three
settings in the "unit settings" page (like metric, pace and Google).

I first exported the whole settings, re-configured the above mentioned parameters
and imported the file again. Parameters were there as before. Very good !  :)

We should have had this a long time before...

Thank you again Phil - very good job !
(This will increase your Karma for at least one point  ;) )

P.S.: It seems, that you know the internal functions very deeply. Where do you know
this from ? Is there any additional documentation, where I can read more about this ?
Right know I would like to know, which parameters are supported by you new plugin ?
Don't misunderstand: I'm not asking you to create a documentation ! You did your
work very well - and that's enough. I'm just asking myself, if there is already some
kind of information, which I don't know. Maybe you have a link or something like that...

Hi Phil,

Sorry it doesn't work on my PC because I can't find the configuration page.
Do I need to remove the last version plugin?

Sincerely,

Geoffrey ???

I did override the plugin, it works fine with GH625 and GH561.

This is what you get to see with an editor
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<GlobalsatDeviceConfiguration xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">

</GlobalsatDeviceConfiguration>

and for the GH625

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<GlobalsatDeviceConfiguration xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
