USB Device Not Recognized: TR-151
« on: December 14, 2009, 08:33:20 am »

Hi!

I tried TR-203 works very nice :-)

Than i tried TR-151, but when i plug in usb cable from TR-151 to PC, MS Windows XP shows: USB Device Not Recognized. I tried to fix this problem, and i have on SM BUS controler questionmark(device manager/other devices).

I did:
1. reinstall WinXP - not working
2. download "new" drivers from manufacture's pages and install them - not working
3. change TR-151 device (our company bought 4) - not working
4. change USB cable - not working
5. using TR-203 software - not working
6. uninstalling older files from TR-230 - not working
7. reading posts on http://franson.com/forum
8. Searching with Google for solution - didnt found

I tried on:
1. PC: Asus Pundit P1, 3Ghz, 1GB RAM, USB2.0, WinXP sp2

2. PC: Intel Quad 3Ghz, 4GB RAM, USB2.0, WinXP sp2

3. PC: Intel Duo 2.6GHz, 2GB RAM, USB2.0, Ubuntu Linux latest

Didnt work for me. So can u please post some ideas, how to fix this problem.
Thanks in advance.

With the TR151, you have to put the #3 dip switch up (ON) for it to be recognized by the computer.  This will put the device in setup mode.  Also, make sure you have the correct drivers: http://www.usglobalsat.com/download/256/win_drivers.zip.  The TR-151 does not use the same driver as the TR203.

Hello Nisch,

Make sure you are using the USB cable that came with the TR-151. It should look like this

Thanks.

What is the point of having a USB-interface if it is not actually a USB-interface?
You can't claim it to be USB, if it does not work with a standard USB cable...

Hello martinwelen,

Welcome to the forums! Basically, the TR-151 is not a USB device. It is a tracking device, or for short, a tracker. The USB Data Cable that came with it is used for debugging and troubleshooting purposes. Hope this is clear and feel free to ask if you have any inquiries.

Just wondering, do you have a TR-151? If so, are you having any problems with it? Let me know, so I could be of assistance.

I know it is a tracking device, I have one.
However, in the guides to update firmware on it, it says to use a USB cable. Which is not correct.
You have designed it with a USB connector, but do not comply with USB standards as I can't use any USB cable.

Hence, I cannot upgrade the TR-151 with latest firmware as the cable is long gone. Most probably because it says it is a USB cable, and I have about 30 of those lying around my office.

I apologize for any confusion that it has caused. And, thank you for understanding.

Perhaps, you can purchase the USB Data Cable for the device from here: http://www.amazon.com/GlobalSat-BT-368i-TR-151-Data-Cable/dp/B005RUPUNK

Seriously, stop calling it a USB data cable, as it is NOT a USB data cable. If it was a USB data cable, I would be able to use any of the 30+ cables I already have, but none of them are working!

Also, Amazon tells me "GlobalSat BT-368i/ TR-151 USB Data Cable cannot be shipped to the selected address."

So, how do you propose I solve this problem with the non-usb-cable I need?
