reactions on firmware XII
« on: January 07, 2010, 03:27:31 pm »

Hello Geoffrey,

The software looks very good :), like to try , but we have a lot of snow and it is freezing cold on the moment -7 degree :(.

One point I like to say, if I select [INDOOR TRAINING] nothing is telling me that the GPS is not leading. So next time I like to go out, it looks like GPS is on, it even tries to lock the satellites. My suggestion is to switch off the blinking satellite symbol if [INDOOR TRAINING] is selected and skip the sat. finding by switching on. In this way you will know immediately that [INDOOR TRAINING] is selected. In case the GPS can't be switched off, it should give a little symbol under need the sat. symbol so you know it is on [INDOOR TRAINING].

Best regards,

Albert

Hello Albert,

I saw there is snowstrom coming Europe, hopefully it is going well.
Well, now you are be able to use firmware XII to get training in house.  :)
You can switch GPS on/ off manually in this version, because we want to keep some information updating on display when GPS is getting fix.

Have a nice day,

Geoffrey  ;)

I just want to encourage everybody who updated the firmware and who
is annoyed about loosing all user settings after the update, to write a
comment to the discussing here:

http://www.usglobalsat.com/forum/index.php?topic=1112.msg2777#msg2777

Maybe, if there is number of users asking to an extended plugin providing a
function for saving/restoring the user settings, we can convince Phil to implement
this function into his plugin !

So - if you want to support this idea: Please give your feedback !

Hello,

my first impression after a 10 k run yesterday.
Pace works fine!  :D Sometimes jumping around 10 seconds at a pace of 5:10 min/km
Pace1k is not usable. It is still always to slow, 6:00 min/km - 6:30 min/km when the true value is around 5:10 min/km.

But if Pace is okay, we donīt need Pace1k anymore.

One question to Geoffrey: Have you solved the problem with the cummulation-error in auto-Lap-function?
My lap-record yesterday:
Lap   Cummulated error
1016      +16
0988      +04
1009      +13
0999      +12
1014      +26
0985      +11
1005      +16
1006      +22
0995      +17
1008      +25

Happy winter

Hello Remco,

Fine to hear that this works so fine, a lot of owners will be very happy.
It is also nice that an idea I had was picked up so quick by Geoffrey and his team. When I did say that a simple cheap HRM belt could do the same I was to much focused on my situation. I namely have a Virtual Tacx trainer that thus the job like speed, rpm watt etc and stores it in to the PC. So the only thing I needed was simple HRM belt. ;)

Hello Longjog,

It is glad to hear PACE is work finally. :D  Thanks for providing idea!
We have resolved cumulative error on firmware beta 3.1, perhaps we added PACE and in-door training features to cause MCU resource is not enough and result in cumulative error.

I will discuss this error with our engineer and can you please forward the training file to me?

Sincerely,

Geoffrey :)

Hi Albert,

The Virtual TACX looks interesting!
I also found the machine supports heart rate/ cadence/ power/ speed/
http://www.cyclex.co.uk/product/cycle_trainers/tacx_cycle_trainer/T1900.html
It seems good for self training in house.

Sincerely,

Geoffrey

I don't think the Autolap Cumulative error issue was ever solved!

Have you tested the calculation method cancelling the cumulative error presented by somebody here? I think you can not claim slow CPU for not being tested/implemented that (as it just adjusts the next lap distance based on the cumulated error)?!?

After solving this and limited number of laps -issue, the FW would be quite optimal for me!! Wasn't your target to have best-in-class product, which GH-615/625 would be with these issues corrected...

Hello Geoffrey,

I am a big fan of the Tacx Fortius trainer (with steering frame), I both it from Futurum shop, By the way I did tell them about your watch and other products again with the good support and ask them in December last year if they intending to sell Globalsat products, they only told me that on the moment this was not the case.
This are some youtube films. I give the links here.

The Fortius multiplayer film is the one I have, so if you buy one we can race with each other.

You can also do condition test and see the results in analyzer.

Have a nice weekend and hopefully we can once race together.

This is unbelievable !   ::)

Geoffrey ! We had a long and detailed discussion about the cumulative lap error !
Don't you rememeber ?  Please have a look here:
http://www.usglobalsat.com/forum/index.php?topic=1036.msg2271#msg2271

And we were talking about this item, since the first version of the firmware, but the above link
is about a discussion about version X !

And this was your answer for solving it:
Here is my answer:

Adding Slope in %
Still checking the alogrithm due to GPS accuracy.
Correction of cumulative error in auto lap function, by modifying the algorithm .
Firmware X already improved a lot. Considering to use Hubert's idea.
Optimization of HRM alarming.
Checking now.

Do you remember ?

Okay - you didn't announce the problem to be fixed in version XII. So I cannot complain about it.

But I'm disappointed, that you forget completely, that there is still a problem  :'(

Hi all,

today I had my first training with firmware version XII.

In these days we have very cold weather here and a lot of snow. So running outside
is much more difficult than in normal days. That means, test conditions are not ideal !

Anyway - there were 3 improvement to be tested:
* Pace
* Pace1K
* Indoor mode

For Pace I have the feeling, that it's more reliable than before, and I think
for my personal needs it will be okay. Unfortunately I couldn't test very intensive
because of weather conditions and my pace today was much slower than normaly.
So I'm not 100% sure, if the displayed values are really okay. But as I said. Looks okay.

For Pace1K I couldn't see any improvement. And as others said before: When we find
that normal pace works fine, we can ommit the pace1k function. This will free the
power and capacity of the watch for other items.

I didn't check Indoor mode .  I can just tell, that I also do not see any reason to
keep the GPS on when Indoor is selected. And I do not understand Geoffrey explanation for this.
Anyway - For my personal use this is not sooo important. As a runner I seldom run indoor.
Especially because I'm not using a treadmill.

Summary for me:  It's okay - but not a big step forward.

Okay - sorry, I just read what ultrapetita wrote:

-PACE: This is OK for me now, but somebody doing pace intervals can require smaller delay. I would like the idea of having user configurable smoothing factor and the current setting could be default value.

-PACE1K: totally useless. My recommendation is that you should forget this as the PACE is working very well.

-Cumulative distance error still present in LAPS, but this was no reported to be corrected in this FW

I totally agree with you !
