Firmware upgrade failed
« on: January 18, 2010, 03:07:50 pm »

Hi Geoffrey !
Ich tried to upgrade the firmware to new version on my gh615 with gh625 firmware.
While the upgrade process was working the connection failed.
I tried to switch the watch on with the power button, but that doesn`t work.
After that i tried to push the up, down and power button same time to come to the upgrade mode.
But it also doesn`t work.
I can`t power on the watch and need some help now !
Any ideas ?

I am sorry to hear this. If still doesn't work on "UP+DOWN+POWER", that means your friend is gone...

Please contact your dealer for repair.

Sincerely,

Geoffrey :(

Hi Geoffrey,

this seems to happen now and then...  and the final answer is always: "contact your dealer".
I'm asking myself (because I'm afraid, that I might have the same problem one day), what
the secret procedure looks like, which will be used by the dealer to repair the watch ?

* Does he really repair the watch ?  Or will he exchange it by a new one ?
* Or does he send it to GlobalSat ?
* What does GlobalSat do ?  Do you exchange it ?
* Or is there a procedure to wake up again ?
* If yes, isn't it possible to provide this procedure to "normal" users ?
* Maybe as unsupported, self-risk tool ?  (if the watch is dead anyway, it won't hurt to try...)

Regards, Hubert

Hi Hubert,

That's why we mention " please don't power off if failed to update firmware and try the update procedure again". Because the bootloader will be erased when start updating procedure. It will ensure to recover by hot key("UP+DOWN+POWER" if the status is over 1%, if not, the device won't be wake anymore.
Often, Globalsat will open device and use tool to do hardware firmware burning to rescue.

For the new coming products (GH561,505...), we will never worry about this problem. Because we decide enhanced CPU with separate bootloader flash.

Sincerely,

Geoffrey

Hello,

It's way too late for chrrpers, who started the thread, but after furious pushing of buttons whilst screaming bad words, I found that on GH-615 the magic combination is "OK+ESC".

Hope this is useful
