We plan it is easy to use not so many functions as GH-505.

That might be the right directions I'ts probably just me and a few other that would like a gh505 kind of device with longer battery,  But don't make it to simple the bicycle people like the advance stuff also, some are real tech-freaks only buying the best, this devices are probably cheap compared to the other equipment they buy for the bike :)

When comparing the smallest font size (ie. as many data fields as possible) to Edge 500, how do they compare?
(or, in other words, the seemingly smal screen size may be an issue for many people... the large bezel suggests a larger screen surface  may be technically possible).

Hello Jervanheg,

The display size is the same, it is the standard size.
Thanks for advice.

Regards,

Geoffrey :D

Hallo Jeroen and Geoffrey,

Interessant dit artikel. This is a interesting article a specially the user comments. What is nice of the 800 is the fact of having a SD card in it.
This would very handy for storing a lot of total information and in the future maybe the geo maps. also the place is nice. Geoffrey do you see a change in having a SD card in it? ::)

Regards,

Albert

Hi Albert, Jeroen

Thanks for information sharing, I am aware of this.
Garmin to build up his mandatory position and expand glitch expeditiously. But we are the strong follower. :D The next generation which embedded Android system, SD slot is under developping.

I assume Android (with Linux beneth) will take care of the GUI parts.
Android is a really nice system, one of my task at work is actually holding Android Training training for companys that wand to build thiere own Android devices.

Hi Geoffrey,

What is the estimated time that the computer is finished? I hope before the winter! ;)

Hello Albert,

It may be available not so early... I think.
But the interface looks firendly.

It' quite unlikely though. One of the reasons (possibly the most important one) Garmin is so dominant in Outdoor (walking/hiking/cycling) is the availability of Topomaps for almost every country. Not easy for a vendor to replicate that, as you'd need to approach each country individually to acquire such maps. Topo-OSM is still in its infancy, so not a real solution here, and DIY-solutions with OziExplorer and the likes is just too difficult.

So I'm assuming this is not a route GS will be taking. Therefor, the real competitor is indeed the Edge 500, which admittingly does tick many boxes (for the average user) in the non-map devices category.
Smart Trackback is the feature that could possibly give GS a competitive edge, as well as other more extended navigation features. Such would require :
- high-resolution screen with several gray values
- high-sensitivity GPS chip/antenna
- small, light, but with screen big enough to display up to 8 customiseable fields
- "profiles" to easily switch between modes (mountainbike vs. roadbike)
- powerful processor for fluent trackback
- north up/heading up switchable
- battery life of Min. 8 hours
- waterproof
- quick-release mount
- buttons to be useable wearing gloves
- mount compatible with several diameters
- possible 2 mounts included (mountainbike/roadbike)
- F(*&%#$#-proof pc connection (Mini or Micro-USB preferred)
- virtual partner preferably
- "smart" point recording

Also, -GS, are you hearing this?- direct compatability with GPX format is a must. The "walled garden" Garmin pushes with their Garmin Connect doesn't go well with most users I know of.

Dear customers,

The main job almost be done with wish list, the testing result is as good as so far. :D
We will partipicate HK electronics Fair in 2010 Oct 13-16 and the product will be there. :D
Expect it says hello sooner.

Sincerely,

Geoffrey
