I manage to use my gh505 from linux, using SportTrack see here:

The only addon for gh505 was that it didn't show up as a ttyUSBn but as a ttyACMn  I faked this by creating a link like this

$> sudo ln -s /dev/ttyACM0 /dev/ttyUSB1

Now I tricked the SportTrack plugin to work!
Might work for OSX also, don't know.

Trying to get the 505 to work in virtualbox but windows wont descover it. Could this above have something to do with it?

Im guessing here as I have not tried Virtualbox with windows but I think you need to use Virtualbox from Oracle instead of the package from Ubuntu. Last when I played with it the package from Ubuntu didn't support forwarding USB devices to the virtual machine (due to license restrictions from Oracle).

Don't know if you need/can specify /dev/ttyACM0 to be forwarded to the virtual machine.

Hi Zingo. Thank you for quick reply. I am using the closed oracleversion so i do have usb-support. Guess it can't hurt to try the $> sudo ln -s /dev/ttyACM0 /dev/ttyUSB1...can it?

No it should be farly safe if there is no "/dev/ttyUSB1" present, you can remove it with

Plugin the cable and after that run

Should i then write sudo ln -s /dev/ttyACM0 /dev/ttyUSB1...or 2 or 3?
And do i need to do it everytime i restart computer?

It will stick, so you don't need to re-run it. It will also scan about 30 devices so you can use /dev/ttyUSB12 if you like, makes it less likely co collide with something existing on /dev/ttyUSB1

hey hackers,

still using GS GH505 with lots of fun but now computer changed to mac.

anybody ever managed to extract GH505 training data to trailrunner e.g. via loadmytracks under mac osx 10.6.x?

this freaks me out. gh615 seems supported but via bluetooth-interface??? at least that's what loadmytracks states. any other clue how at least access the usb storage?

Hi sacha. I have pushed and finally have succeeded into obtaining 625xt supported by Load My Track and Macmaze. Once done you can try to ask macmaze and LMT creator for 505 support and they might accept if they have the right documentation and if the communication protocol is not far from 6125xt (and I think it is not).  You can ask Geoffrey for proper communication protocol. 625xt support should be done in one to three weeks.

unfortunately 505 is withdrawn and i'm pretty unexperienced with interfaces
but anyway i'll ask geoffrey for "communication protocol" or other documentation to forward to LMT hoping developers might help. actually i believe 615/625 is quite different from 505 but timex global trainer is almost the same.

You can ask LMT but I rather think Jeremy from macmaze will be more likely to do that than LMT.

He is rewriting his application and will sale low price on mac app store.

With this software, you can extract gpx and see you trace on a map.

Basic and simple. Once done he will ask Bernie to incorporate that to trailrunnerx, just like LMT.

But even if he does not you will be able to use macmaze along plenty of software while importing gpx.


I'll let you know when the best time to ask. Tell me when you have communication protocol.

or search for osx on sporttracks forum. I did not suceed into installing sporttracks on osX but I read that some people has been able to do so.
