I have a kw-nt1 Jvc car audio that has gps ant that has a $200 cost for factory replacement. I'm trying to find a low cost solution. The gps ant connection I have is a 8pin "I believe proprietary" connection on the back of the radio. I have the factory internal wiring schematic and it calls out 5 connections....   
1-  TX,
2-  RX,
3-  3.3v back-up (VBU),
4-  5.0v (VCC),
5-  ground
6,7,8-   3 remaining are labeled NC but schematic show slice to ground in the radio.

The only info JVC tech would give me is that it's a sirf III and waas.
Do anyone know if the 406a would work for me if i wired it in or some other product?

Please provide details about this JVC Auto Navigation such as specs, datasheets, etc.
Also, how do you plan to use the engine module with this navigation device?

Just additional questions:
What would be the voltage levels of the TX and RX (TTL or RS232)?
What protocol is this device using (e.g. SiRF, NMEA...)?

From what I can figure out from the drawings... It's TTL and SIRF.   WAAS

The EM-406A outputs TTL and its protocol is NMEA by default. However, you can utilize a program called SiRFDemo to switch to SiRF protocol. For instructions, please refer below:

1. Download the SiRFDemo program: (http://www.usglobalsat.com/store/downloads/SiRFDemo387.zip).
2. Extract the file and install the application.
3. Connect the engine module.
4. Open up the software.
5. Select the proper com port and baud rate.
6. Go to Action > Open Data Source.
7. Next, go to Action > Switch to SiRF Protocol.
8. If you see scrolling data in the Response View window, it means the board is in SiRF Mode.

Note: Be sure not to click on anything else in this software, as you can render your device unusable. Moreover, the device will return to its default settings once the internal battery drains when it is removed from power.

Also, make sure that you supply 5V to it. Just refer to its datasheet for more details.

You can try the following steps, but we cannot guarantee that it would work since our engineers is not familiar with the navigation device.

hmmm sorry on my mistake too. Yup its a suitable place for that.

Change settings but head unit never reconized the module.
