Difference in hardware from OS perspective

I would like to use a GPS with an Android tablet via a USB receiver.  I cannot locate info on what may be different between these two devices from the OS perspective.  I.e. Is the hardware driver in Linux the same for both products?

I looked at those postings before I posted, but only for the ND model was a chipset mention (Prolific PL2303).  I am tempted to believe they use the same chipset since their specs are very similar and the Linux USB driver has the same source name.  But one USB driver is a .RAR file and the other is a .ZIP file so I wanted to make sure they were the same technology...I would hate to buy one and learn the other is different and "better" from the Linux side.

The BU-353 (http://www.usglobalsat.com/store/download/62/bu353_ds_ug.pdf) and the ND-100S (http://www.usglobalsat.com/store/download/590/nd100s_ds_ug.pdf) have the same GPS Chipset, which is called SiRF Star III.

On the other hand, the ND-100 (http://www.usglobalsat.com/store/download/650/nd100_ds_ug.pdf) has the MStar chipset. However, this has been classified as a discontinued product.

Apparently, they are using the same driver called Prolific PL2303. You mentioned that one USB Driver is a .rar format and the other one is a .zip file. Can you please direct us in what page you found these formats?

http://www.usglobalsat.com/s-122-bu-353-support.aspx has the ZIP file for the Linux driver under the Downloads label.  http://www.usglobalsat.com/s-124-nd-100s-support.aspx has the RAR file for the Linux driver under the Download label (this link also refers to 7.3/8.0/9.0 where as the first page is more generic).

They contain similar files since they have the same SiRF chipset. The differences are the name of the file and compressed formats used. You will see that once you have downloaded both of those files.

The 7.3/8.0/9.0 refers to the versions of the Redhat system. When you unzipped those formats, it will show you three files for each version.
