DG-200 Communication Specifications
« on: May 13, 2011, 09:14:47 am »

I wrote a mileage tracking application for the DG-100 that reads data directly from the device through the USB/Serial port.  Does the DG-200 use the same Communication Specifications?  Will I need to modify my program to be able to use the DG-200?

Our engineers stated that the commands of DG-200 only have a few changes with the DG-100 because of functions differences. Moreover, the DG-200 has a larger memory size than the DG-100 as it requires more memory storage at server side for keeping data.

Hello, I would also be interested in this documentation, As I want to provide a lightweight client for the DG-200. Like the one I did for the DG-100 (available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/dg100toolbox/).

Hello,

I currently consider buying a DG-200 datalogger, but I would both need to be able to use it with linux, and to use it as a receiver connected to my laptop.
pixelk told me it should be feasible with the developer's documentation. Could you please also send it to me?

Hi z80a,

Welcome to the forums! I believe you would not be able to use the DG-200 as a receiver, since it would require firmware modification. However, I would need to check with our engineers about this. Regarding the Linux OS, please refer to this forum posting for more info: (http://www.usglobalsat.com/forum/index.php?topic=3876.msg10583#msg10583). As of now, there is no software available for Linux to be utilize with the DG-200.

As for the documentation, you can check your email for our response. Please stand by.

Just confirmed with our engineers that customizing the firmware for the DG-200 to include the receiver mode is possible. However, the GPS sensitivity would not be good or quite weak because of the USB Cable. Also, it has not been tuned to function as a receiver.

As a result, they suggested to utilize the BT-368 (http://www.usglobalsat.com/p-537-bt-368.aspx#images/product/large/537.jpg), which is a bluetooth interface.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.

Hello,

I'm an other linux user of the DG-200, and I would like to be able to be able to use it on this OS. From what I have read on this forum, I should be able to manage this with your developer documentation. Could I have access to it ?

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Sorry to bother you again, but I received no response from your service regarding the documentation... I hope I did it correctly, but since I got no response, I do not know what I did wrong. Thanks for your help.

Hello USG_TECH10,
I have a DG-200 data logger and will use it to record tracks for contributing to the OpenStreetMap project (www.openstreetmap.org).
Maybe you know josm, which is the best map editor for OpenStreetMap ? It has a plugin named Globalsat (http://www.raphael-mack.de/josm-globalsat-gpx-import-plugin/), that can be used to download the GPS data directly from the Globalsat DG100 data logger. Unfortunately, It doesn't work with the DG-200. What are the differences between the protocols ?
If you send me the DG-200 communication specifications, I'll update the Globalsat plugin to support the DG-200 data logger.
Thanks a lot !
Eric
