GPX file omits the speed
« on: June 14, 2011, 12:20:37 am »

The GPX file exported from the Data Logger PC Utility omits the speed.  It includes the position, date/time, and even elevation, but no speed.  How do I get the speed exported to the GPX file?

The exported KML, CSV, and TXT files all include the speed, but not the GPX file.  This seems backwards because the KML specification makes no mention of speed, whereas the GPX specification does document how the speed is to be tagged and formatted.

What is the version of the DataLogger PC Utility that you have? Did you download it from the CD or the website? You can download the latest version from here: http://www.usglobalsat.com/store/download/25/datalogger_setup.zip

Also, what is the operating system of your computer?

I'm using version S-0PC-0L-1001151 on Windows Vista 32-bit.

I did both, installed from the CD, then downloaded from the website and reinstalled.  It seems to be the same version either way.

The latest one that we have is S-0PC-0L-1104071. You can download it from here: (http://www.usglobalsat.com/store/download/25/datalogger_setup.zip). Please uninstall the previous version and install that program.

Thank you.

I uninstalled, re-downloaded by clicking the link in your message, and re-installed.  Alas, the About box still shows S-0PC-0L-1001151.

Would you confirm that
  • The link is correct, and
  • The file at that link has the current version?

Regards.

Just confirmed that the link has the previous version. Sorry about that.

I will send you the latest one via email. Please check.

I received the file you emailed, thank you.  I confirm that I'm now running version S-0PC-0L-1104071.

Alas, this version also omits the speed from the exported .GPX file.  For my purposes, the GPX file must include the speed, as the GPX 1.0 schema specifies (see http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0/gpx.xsd).

Regards.

Can you please send the gpx file via email? Because when I clicked on the link, all I saw is a blank page.

Also, what program are you using to open it?

I just emailed the the GPX 1.0 schema file to you from that link.

Please note that this is not a GPX file.  Instead, it is the XML schema for the GPX 1.0 file format.

To open the file, I use a text editor (NotePad++, but even ordinary NotePad would serve nicely).  You can also use a wordprocessor or spreadsheet to view the file.

Regards.
