I just realized something that might have been obvious for everybody else but I'll post it anyway.

I've wanted to learn orienteering for years but there's no club around where I can learn...but, if I transfer some waypoints to the watch and mark them out on a physical map I can just get out and practise by myself. My watch will let me know when I'm at the right spot. 
And if I get lost I can always go to the watch for direction.
