Own a BU-353. Using a MacPowerBook pro Google Earth
« on: July 07, 2012, 07:45:03 am »

I own a MBP (64 bit) (2.4 GHz Intel Core i7) and using a BU-353 to get GPS data. I am not able to figure out how to use that GPS data to automatically locate me on Google earth. Can anyone help?

In order to use the BU-353 with Google Earth, please follow the instructions below:

Open up Google Earth. Go to Tools > GPS > Realtime. Check the box that states 'Automatically follow the path' and click Start. It should show you your current position.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you.

I did as you asked and Google earth is looking for the device to sync with in the following location:
/dev/cu.SerialPort
/dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync
/dev/cu.usbserial

I have some screen shots but cannot figure how to send them to you.

Suggestions?

Please select the /dev/cu.usbserial since that is the port assigned to the BU-353. Let us know if you got it to work.

If the device is still unable to communicate with Google Earth, you can send the screenshots to support@usglobalsat.com. Also, include a brief description, in the email, of the issue that you're having.

hi friends, same problem up to me. the only port globalsat's PL2303_1.4.0.dmg provides is /dev/cu.bluetooth-PDA-Sync a screenshot would simply display no other option in GPS Utility setting's pulldown.

any idea how to tweak the serial port?

thanks to you all

Can you please uninstall and reinstall the driver? Please download the driver, along with the instructions (MAC OSX USB Driver Reinstall Guide) from here: http://www.usglobalsat.com/store/download/62/osx_10_6_usb_drvr.zip). Make sure to carefully read the instructions first.

Let us know how it goes.
