BU 353 to HP iPaq driver
« on: July 31, 2012, 06:14:44 am »

I have a need to read simple coordinates from a BU353 (GPS Info page data presentation is ok) on a HP iPaq RX4500 PDA which uses Windows Mobile 5 operating system.   Unable to find a driver or a means to do so...any suggestions most welcome.

Hello bundyduo,

Welcome to the forums! We are not familiar on how the BU-353 (USB GPS Receiver) would work with an iPaq, so we have a few questions:

Does it have a USB port or where a USB device can be plugged in?
Would it work USB devices?
Can you please provide some links/references to it?

Hi and thanks for your quick reply.  The iPaq RX4500 series PDAs have a USB cable to both charge the internal battery and allow coms to a tethered PC using what they call  "Active Sync" software. When tethered each can talk to each other.  Whether it can talk to another device over this link I am unsure.  Have copied a product review from Sept 2006 on the PDA so it may give you some idea about what I am trying to use. Thanks

Alright, thanks for providing the details. Unfortunately, we are not sure if the BU-353 would work with this iPaq since we are unable to test every PDA out there. In other words, we cannot guarantee the workability of these two devices. If you still want to go through with the testing, you could possibly download the drivers from here: http://www.usglobalsat.com/store/download/62/wince_driver.zip

For other downloads, please take a look here: http://www.usglobalsat.com/s-122-bu-353-support.aspx

Perhaps, you could take a look at the other GPS Receivers that we have that are known to work with an iPaq device:
Compact Flash (BC-337): http://www.usglobalsat.com/p-140-bc-337.aspx
Bluetooth GPS Receivers: http://www.usglobalsat.com/s-17-bluetooth.aspx

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi,
Im using my Ipaq 3970 with Bluetooth GPS-receiver BT338. Only have to pair the both devices and then it works fine. No special driver necessary.
Best regards

Hi Longjog,

Thanks for sharing your experience. Good to hear that the BT-338 works well with the iPaq 3790.

Hi bundyduo,

Perhaps, you can take a look at our Bluetooth GPS Receivers that we have here: (http://www.usglobalsat.com/store/Bluetooth_comparison_chart.html). As long as your iPaq supports Bluetooth (SPP) or is bluetooth-enabled, then, they should be able to work with each other.
