DataCenter improvement suggestion
« on: October 18, 2012, 05:52:38 pm »

Hi,

I have two suggestions you could include in the future versions of DataCenter. These wouldn't be to complicated to implement, but might quite improve the user experience.

#01
Short description:
To add a command to import the tracks from another .gsr file into an already opened .gsr.

Detailed description:
Let's say we have two .gsr files - gps_data_01.gsr and gps_data_02.gsr. The first file contains five tracks, and the second one contains seven tracks.

If we open the first file in DataCenter, we can (by putting the checkmarks) visualize more than one track at the same time - and each track has a different color. However, what if we would like to visualize the 4th track from the first .gsr file and the 5th track from the second .gsr file at the same time?

It would be very convenient to have the Import Tracks option so we could firstly open the first .gsr file, and then import the tracks from the second .gsr file - to have an ability to display them both at the same time.

Because - once we clear the memory of the DG-200, there is no way to download the previously recorded tracks combined with the new ones that were logged after clearing the RAM. With an option of importing the tracks into the already opened .gsr file, we could later combine more downloaded .gsr files and save them as one .gsr file containing all of the desired tracks.

It is true we could export the tracks to .gpx and later combine and visualize them with some other software, but that would be something else and the information about the manually logged positions would have been lost. We could before export the manually recorded points, but again - we would need another software to display the tracks and the exported points.

#02
Short description:
To implement the ability of highlighting the corresponding record in the Properties window by clicking the point on the displayed track.

Detailed description:
When looking at the track displayed on the map, we might have been interested what was our speed at some exact location on the track (e.g. at some specific curve), or what was the time when we were at some specific place. At the time, the only way to determine such data is continuously double-clicking some of the records in the properties window, trying to guess the desired position on our track (by - after each double-click - observing the location mark).

However, there would be really nice to be able to Ctrl-click the desired place on the track, which would highlight the corresponding record that belongs to the selected point. Ctrl+click somewhere on the track could snap to the point that is nearest to the cursor.

I hope USGlobalSat software engineers would consider these two suggestions and hopefully find them useful and worth of implementation.

Best regards
