GB-580 Mac driver
« on: November 29, 2012, 04:04:35 pm »

Hello,
Is there a driver for mac for this device or someone have developed one?
I'm starting to use rubiTrack 3 and it seems to be a great soft, but it can't import gb-580 activities.
Thanks

Unfortunately, there is no MAC driver available for this product, but I will double-check about this.

As for the software, we're are planning to include support for the 2 existing products, namely, the GH-625XT and the GB-580, in the Cloud version of the TGP.

I know that the Mac can have windows emulation, and it seems to work with TGPro, but only make sure that you put TGPro in a different Path than suggested by installer. This to avoid rights.
I don't know if ST3 (Sporttracks) thus allow Mac?

Hello kimso,

After checking, there are no plans to develop a MAC driver for this product at this moment.

However, as albert suggested, you can have a Windows OS emulation on your MAC computer. Make sure to login as an admin and install the TGP with admin rights. Thanks.

Not helping here, but http://www.loadmytracks.com/ supports 625XT for Macs
I have done a little on a GPSBabel support for GS_Sport, but that is far from finished. The SportTracks plugin is a good start if anyone want to take a shot.

That's pretty disappointing and a non-starter for me. While the GB-580 is certainly at a more attractive price than the Garmin units, if I can't get the data off the thing, it isn't terribly valuable for me. Licensing Windows just for this purpose is not something that I would want to do, and adds significantly to cost of ownership (not to mention the pain of keeping it updated and the loss of security).

I am aware that the very similar Timex Cycle Trainer 2.0 apparently has firmware that ostensibly allows the user to access the data in the unit as a UMASS device.

The new TRT 2.0 opens as a standard mass storage device (like a USB thumb drive), and the files themselves are in the .FIT format (same as Garmin, Magellan, and a few others).

Has anyone tried this with the GB-580 under Linux/FreeBSD/Mac yet?

Edit -- This appears to have been under examination:
Per our engineers, they are looking into this Mass Storage feature and currently testing it. Hope to have something to share with everyone in the near future.
