The USB Driver for the BU-353-S4 is already built into Linux kernel, so with Ubuntu, all you need to do is open up the Terminal and send this command:
 
    stty -F /dev/ttyUSB0 ispeed 4800 && cat < /dev/ttyUSB0
 
You should be able to see the NMEA data afterwards.
