Window 8 Location Platform
« on: July 05, 2013, 01:46:16 pm »

The BU-353S4 indicates that it is OS compatible with Windows 8. While the USB-Serial chip may have a driver, there is now a requirement for a Location API driver.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/hardware/hh975385.aspx

This allows the unit to be used by applications using the new Location API. Please provide such a driver. The details are here:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/hardware/ff545919

The Location API is a sweet thing. I can develop Location Fencing applications. For example. for after school update, it will allow me to send a notification when the kid gets within say 50 feet of the house. The Location API allows many apps to subscribe to location information, rather than than just the one app that has ownership of the COM port it's on. (think gpsd from Linux). I can put you in contact with the Microsoft GPS Program Manager if you need.

Yes, please update your drivers to allow easy installation with Win8.  In many cases, the driver itself doesn't need to be rewritten, just the
installation.  Adding support for Location API would also be great.
