EM-318-02 Connector
« on: October 09, 2012, 12:51:45 pm »

Hi!

I used to use ET-332 module for my designs, but it's discontinued! Sales Department from GlobalSat told me that the direct replace is EM-318-02. I don't like the idea of having a wire connector to the pcb. The ET-332 module had a direct connector to the pcb. is there another option, like a direct connector without using a wire?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Jose,

Welcome to the forums! As stated, you can use the EM-318-02 as a replacement for the ET-332. The EM-318-02 has a 10-pin connector. For more info about it, please refer to its User Manual on page 5: http://www.usglobalsat.com/store/download/530/em31802_ug.pdf

Let me know if you have any questions.

I have no choice... the module needs a wire to connect to the target pcb... for a massive product is non-viable or at least impractical... in that case, the solution would be use a smd module, wouldn't be?

I don't know why the connectors (and pinout) change all the time

It depends on how you would like a certain module to be connected and what features you're looking for. Because after checking what's comparable to ET-332, the EM-318-02 has similar specs and functions with it.

Also, what do you mean by smd module? Can you please provide some links or references to it?

Yes, the EM-318-02 is similar to ET-332, but you have to connect it with a wire to the target pcb. The ET-332 modulo brought a male  connector, and at target pcb, you simply put a female connector and everything worked! With  EM-318-02 you have to build a wire with two connectors... it's impractical
The smd modules are those you solder directly in the pcb and you have to design antenna interface, communication interface, etc

Sorry for the delay and thanks for the info about the smd modules.

In terms of specs, the EM-318-02 is the closest thing to the ET-332. Since you prefer a module that has a similar connection as the ET-332, unfortunately, we don't have any engine board available like that.

We do apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for understanding.

I'll try to find another module. You can close the topic. Thanks!
