I know that GPS's are not too good at measure hights. If I remember correct it have something to do with that the satelites are on a sphere almost at the same hight distance so if there where some satelites on different hights compare to you you you would be getting better altitude reading. e.g. the reading error of the hight is greater then x,y reading.

For us runners even the small slopes count so there have been numouros discussions about this on the running sites seem to be a problem for all GPS watches, best seem to have a barometer to measure highs.

If you use/try sporttrack there is an evalation correction plugin, adjusting your route to the surface of the earth.

Hi Geoffrey,

I already asked for the latest beta firmware version two times, but didn't receive it up to now.
Can you please send it to me for testing ?

Thank you and best regards,

Hi Geoffrey
I got my Beta and sent back an mail did you receive my reply mail? It was nothing important but if you didn't get it then sending mail to you could be the problem me/others have when requesting betas.

I did a test run today with cleaned belt + new FW, I had no problem with high HRM at all, it was a 5km run.

Hi Geoffrey,

thank you very much for the latest beta version. I just received it and I hope that I can
test it tomorrow !

In the meantime I want to tell you two more items I found in the meantime:

1. The positve item:
I have used the watch as a navigator last weekend in a completely unknown forest.
After a while of walking in different directions, without my watch I wouldn't have been
able to find my way back. But with the help of the navigation tools like map, direction
arrow, distance to start point, I always felt very comfortable and it was really easy to
find back.  This is a great function and it's working really nice !   :D

2. Smaller problem:
After the longer walk, I joined a lecture and I forget to stop my watch. So after about
5 minutes of sitting on my chair, the watch signaled another lap had finished (I configured
the auto lap function for 1km). First I thought, this happened because my last lap was
about 980m and now because of some inaccuracy of GPS the lap had finished.
So I didn't stop the watch to avoid more beeping and not to disturb the lecture.
But after about 20 min. more another lap finished while I was sitting in my chair without
any movement.
I can imagine this happens because GPS will provide different positions and adding all this
little differences finally will accumulate to 1000m. However... maybe this can be optimzed.
In the moment I don't have a good idea how to solve this. Maybe somebody else has.

Best regards, Hubert

Since you where inside I would guess your reception was really bad. With a bad reception you will get a more unstable location. Maybe this could be filtered. But this error isn't that big when using the watch outside.

Hi Hubert,

this is very easy to solve. Activate the Auto-Stop function. The Timer will stop automatically if you have to stop at a traffic-light or if you take an other stop. When you will start running again, the timer will auto resume.

Here is one more result of my firmware Beta 2 test:

* Automatic lap count (by distance):

I'm not quite sure, if the cumulative error, which occurs when automatic lap count
(by distance) is enabled, should be solved in the Beta-2 version ?!

And I'm also not quite sure, how the error was exactly in the latest official release,
however: It might be better now - but it is not solved !

I watched the lap counting several times during my latest run, and I saw that the lap end
was slowly cumulating an error. As an example, I watched the values for Lap No. 7
(lap length was set to 1000m):

At a total length of      6988m:  Lap not ended   (That's okay)
Next displayed value at 7002m:  Lap not ended   (Why not ?)
Next displayed value at 7016m:  Lap not ended   (Why not ?)
Next displayed value at 7030m:  Lap not ended   (Why not ?)
After one or two seconds the Lap End Display appeared.

I think, the calculation for Lap End seems to be very easy !
When Lap No. is "n", then the Lap n will end, when:   Total Length > n * LapLength

Hoping for improvement with next version,
Regards, Hubert

Hi Hubert,

this problem was already discussed some time ago.
The reason for this is, the watch ist always cummulating the distance from the end of the last lap and not from the begin of the first lap (startpoint). The watch is finishing the autolap, when the lapdistance is reached. You have seen, the distance isnīt counted meter by meter but in steps arround 14 meters (in your example). So there will be a cummulation error. The longer the distance the bigger the cummulationerror. This could only be solved, when the start-time of every lap is taken from the beginning of the first lap minus the time from start to the lapend of the lap before.
Geoffrey knows this and I hope globalsat is working on the solution of this bug. But on the other side this is not a must have but a nice to have.
Especially when you are making a race where every 1000 meters is the sign with the lengh, the watch should beep near by the sign (when autolap distance is 1 km). but this does not possible with the "error" in the firmware. For example when you pass the 5th sign (5 km) the watch will mark the end of the 5th lap 70 meters behind the sign and at the end of a 10 k race you will have only 9 full laps with the watch .
But for training this doesnīt matter at all.

Hi Longjog,

this problem was already discussed some time ago.
Geoffrey knows this and I hope globalsat is working on the solution of this bug.
I know that is was discussed some time ago and therefore I hoped for a solution in beta-2 firmware.
I also know the reason why it is calculated wrong. And I thought, compared with the other
problems (like HRM problems) this could be easily changed.
I just wanted to let GlobalSat know, if they tried to fix the problem, they were not successful.

But on the other side this is not a must have but a nice to have.
But for training this doesnīt matter at all.
The complete watch is a "nice to have". For training it is important to run (or what ever you do) !

But this in not the point ! If I buy a watch which offers a set of functions, I want to use them.
And they should work and give a useful result.
Of course I don't expect more than the technical limits (like GPS accuracy) allow.
But this is not the case for the cumulative error in auto lap function. It's just a simple formular...

Maybe for you this is not important - I want to have it.
And I want to ask Geoffrey and the other developers to continue improving this function !
