RED BANK - New Jersey lawmakers are considering a proposal to use GPS tracking devices in state vehicles to make sure workers are on the job.Assemblywoman Amy Handlin says residents often complain about the use of state-owned vehicles at the mall, at the beach and even in other states.Handlin says most employees are justified and are in fact hard at work, but with gas prices sky high and state budgets tight, her bill would make sure those cars are where they're supposed to be by putting GPS units inside them. The units have already been put in Jersey City vehicles by Mayor Steven Fulop.Handlin, a Republican, has Democratic support for the idea, and envisions it not only cutting down on abuse, but also helping managers make the best use of their employees' time.
